We continue to network to maximise aid to associations in Horta Sur

7 Desember 2024 – We continue to make progress in the reconstruction of the associative fabric of the region with an intense agenda of meetings and collaborations that reinforce the networks of mutual aid. We recently received a visit from the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, the Spanish Association of Foundations and Mutual Aid of France (Société de Secours Mutuel), leading organisations in the field of solidarity and community reconstruction. In addition, we held a meeting with several associations from Horta Sur to address the challenges facing the associative movement in the current context. These meetings have highlighted the essential role of associations in ensuring social cohesion and the continuity of an active and committed community: ‘Without associations there will be no victories, and to achieve them we need a strong, autonomous associative fabric that is adapted to new sensitivities and challenges. Recovering community awareness in order to build a shared future is key to our survival as organisations’.
We also reflected on the need to generate trust in citizens and to promote organisations that not only listen, but also educate and involve society in the processes of change.
In this context, we propose ten strategic lines to reflect on and specify actions within each associative entity:
- Mutual aid: Encourage solidarity and collaboration between organisations, sharing resources, knowledge and services.
- Let’s capitalise: Saving as much as we can each year is a good practice to be able to face obstacles in the future.
- Reject precariousness: Recognise the value of associations as an essential asset and work for their dignity.
- Solidarity contracting: Prioritise collaboration between associations and ensure fair financial compensation for services rendered.
- Increase the social base: Attract new members to strengthen the organisations.
- Diversify funding: Promote local philanthropy and raise awareness of association costs.
- Rethink activities: Adapt the offer to the real needs of the community, seeking sustainable income.
- Evaluate impact: Measure the social, economic and fiscal benefits generated by the associations.
- Integrate diversity: Welcome newcomers as a source of wealth and opportunities.
- Promote youth participation: Provide spaces for young people to innovate and make mistakes.
