The Comarcal Museum of l’Horta Sud

The Comarcal Museum of l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March is a center for the conservation, dissemination, research, and exhibition of the cultural heritage of the l’Horta Sud region.

History

The Comarcal Museum of l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March was created as an initiative of the Horta Sud Foundation as part of its programs aimed at showcasing the traditional culture of the region, which for centuries has undoubtedly been the hallmark of identity that has given this territory its distinct personality.

The facilities were inaugurated and opened to the public on June 28, 2000. In June 2003, the first expansion was inaugurated within the same museum premises, allowing for a temporary exhibition room entirely separate from the permanent exhibition and without interfering with its narrative. This expansion enabled the museum to broaden its offerings with new educational and recreational activities.

The museum is housed in Ca l’Estudiant de Boqueta, an old farmhouse built during the first decade of the 20th century.

Objectives

The Comarcal Museum of l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March is a center for the conservation, dissemination, research, and exhibition of the cultural heritage of the region, committed to social and cultural revitalization of its territory, based on elements that have historically defined l’Horta Sud’s identity and constitute its hallmarks.

A visit to the permanent exhibition allows us to understand the way of life of a local family, which, as was common in the context of preindustrial society, typically earned its livelihood through farming.

Visit Areas of the Museum

Within the farmhouse, the residence and daily work of the inhabitants are closely intertwined, which is why these buildings exhibit a specific typology that rationally addresses the needs posed.

Three clearly distinct areas can be identified: the dwelling, located in the two bays facing the main facade where domestic life unfolds; the section related to agricultural work, centered around the courtyard; and the third, dedicated to storing agricultural products, located on the upper floor of the building.

The museum’s collections have been formed through the generous contributions of the region’s residents.

Regional Heritage

L’Horta Sud has historically been a very dynamic territory, producing a wide variety of heritage assets that are preserved in its surroundings. Perhaps this proximity diminishes their perceived importance, often due to a lack of awareness of their cultural value. Therefore, understanding them is crucial to achieving their reevaluation by society, thereby ensuring their conservation for future generations.
