The Horta Sud Museum becomes a laboratory for recovering photographs damaged by the DANA

25th of november de 2024 -The Museum Horta Sud, the headquarters of the Foundation, has been converted for a few weeks now into a field laboratory to recover photographs and graphic material damaged by the DANA. This initiative has been promoted by the Heritage Department of the University of Valencia, but has the support of the other five Valencian public universities and other institutions such as Etno, ICOM and the Spanish Conservation Group.

During the first few days, both the tasks of collecting the photographs and those of analysis, cleaning and restoration were carried out at the facilities of the UV and the Universitat Politècnica de València. However, the team responsible for the project has opted to open field laboratories in the most affected areas in order to make it easier for families to hand over their photographs. Thus, the Museum Horta Sud was the first place to join this network of laboratories.

The Heritage Department explains that the Museum’s facilities are ideal for drying the photographs submitted by the families and that they need to be restored, as they require well ventilated spaces, such as the large courtyard of our county house. They also report that more than 3,000 images have already been collected from some 25 families in the region.

The Museu Comarcal de l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March was created on the initiative of the Fundació Horta Sud, with the aim of raising awareness of the traditional culture of the region. In this line, the preservation of heritage is one of our fundamental priorities, as it represents the safeguarding of the identity and collective memory of a territory.
