The energy communities platform of l’Horta Sud resumes activity to face the challenges of the DANA in energy matters
This network converges within the framework of the “Café Associatiu”, promoted by Fundació Horta Sud and Caixa Popular, and includes energy communities from all over the Valencian territory
It will be necessary to “work together to face ecosocial challenges through local energy action”
September 10, 2025 – Almost a year after the DANA, the energy communities of l’Horta Sud and other Valencian regions will resume their functioning as a platform, within the framework of the “Café Associatiu” initiative, promoted by Fundació Horta Sud and Caixa Popular. They will do so next Wednesday, September 17, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Museu Comarcal de l’Horta Sud.
The objective of the event is to share the local experiences since October 29, 2024, and reflect on the new scenarios that have opened up and on which it will be necessary to “work together to face ecosocial challenges through local energy action,” according to Carla Borràs, head of the School of Associations at Fundació Horta Sud.
According to platform collaborator Salva Moncayo, “all the CELs have been working over these months to make progress towards energy sovereignty,” but, he adds, “especially in trying to address the increase in energy vulnerability, worsened by the DANA catastrophe.” For Moncayo, “almost a year later, it is time to reactivate the network to broaden mutual support and maximize the impact towards a cleaner and fairer energy society.”
From the different entities that make up the platform, a call has been made to all individuals and organizations interested in the creation of local energy communities, either in the process of being established or already operating, to join the platform “to be able to share, learn, and increase impact,” and to participate in the next meeting. Participation in the working session is open and free, but prior registration is required by filling out this form.
The Energy Communities Platform –still in the process of being named by the group, made up of 11 local energy communities (CELs) already operating, 2 groups in the process of formation, 3 with interest, and 5 related entities–, seeks to reactivate mutual support among energy communities and develop as an agent capable of influencing decisions related to the energy transition.
Since the launch of this project in 2022, the network has grown with local energy communities (CELs) in the process of being formed, an open resource repository has been promoted to support all energy communities, and working commissions have been created to support energy communities and establish a joint action strategy, among other things.
