October 2, 2025 – Almost a year has passed since l’Horta Sud and its population became the epicenter of the catastrophe caused by the DANA. Today, as expected, the effects of the flood are still very present. However, thanks to collective support we have been able to move forward in the recovery and development of our region.
And a large part of this support has come from countless associations, collectives and small businesses that have carried out actions and activities with the aim of mobilizing resources from the community and for the community. A great wave of solidarity that has materialized in more than 300 initiatives from all over the world.
While in Spain more than 500 artists joined forces to perform a series of concerts in support of the affected municipalities, in Melbourne, Zurich and Shanghai hundreds of people ran for the same cause. Culture, crafts, education, sports, gastronomy… the initiatives have been as diverse as they are numerous.
We cannot name them all, but we can acknowledge that every gesture, every activity and every contribution has been essential. That is why, from the very beginning, we felt the need to find a way to make visible everything that was happening and to preserve it as a collective memory. This is how the idea of creating a living map of initiatives was born, a tool that gathers the activities carried out, the field of action, the place where they took place and links to additional information.
The map does not aim to rank or select, but to recognize and record each of the initiatives that are making the recovery process possible. The goal is to turn it into an open archive of solidarity, capable of showing the breadth and diversity of all those initiatives that marked the pulse of a community that knew how to respond in the face of emergency.
Moreover, this map is also a demonstration of the trust that thousands of people, organizations and companies have placed in us, for which we are deeply grateful. This trust is closely linked to the fact of being a community foundation, a structure rooted in the territory, with social legitimacy and with the capacity to channel solidarity towards the most urgent needs and, at the same time, towards long-term transformative projects.
Precisely, one of the key capacities of community foundations is knowing how to increase local philanthropy, and this is only possible when there is a bond of trust with the community.
As the map is still being constantly updated and we continue receiving mobilizing initiatives, we encourage all organizations whose initiatives are not yet included to send us the information at hola@fundaciohortasud.org. This way we will be able to incorporate them and keep this solidarity mapping up to date, reflecting the commitment of the community.
