“Youth and Values”: Towards a New Model of Transformative Solidarity

May 19, 2025 – When the DANA storm struck our towns, young people responded with courage and empathy from the very first moment, showing that commitment, responsibility, and a drive to transform reality also live in youth. That is why from the Horta Sud Foundation we want to highlight this involvement and delve into their essential role during the disaster through the study: “Youth and Values”: Towards a New Model of Transformative Solidarity.

To carry out this study, we have created a survey aimed at young people aged 18 to 30 who have volunteered in cleaning and aid tasks. The goal is to understand firsthand the motivations that led young people to participate as volunteers, whether they came from associations or if it was their first experience in solidarity work.

We want to outline the profile of young volunteers and reflect together on how the understanding of solidarity is changing and what role community foundations can play in this process of social transformation.

We believe that analyzing the past and learning from it is key to avoiding repeated mistakes and turning crises into opportunities for improvement.
